Or does he just think I’m an idiot?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
So here we have eibach springs over ko ni shocks, sway bars, short shift kit, full exhaust including headers, larger brakes, and a high capacity radiator. And you’re going to say a couple sentences later “no indication of being raced”? Did you fall for that line when you bought it like this? Because, wow.
Not a bad price for all that with a hard top. Yeah, over 200k miles, but still.

With the amount of idiots I see on the roads everyday, I feel it is safe to assume that everyone are idiots

They want $6k for an MX5 with 200,000 miles and non-functioning a/c or power steering? And a non-matching set of tires? That price is crazy.
And yeah, this thing was totally raced.

Ive been working from home, in blissful ignorance, since March

Yes. Yes .

Aren’t those just basic street mods?
![]() 08/31/2020 at 07:48 |

Power steering delete and a/c delete are totally normal things to do to your daily, especially a hardtop.
![]() 08/31/2020 at 07:49 |

Hard top lists on CL for $1200 by itself, leaving 5k for a rare color NA. Not bad.

Missed those too! That's even better

Most definitely doesn’t double clutch and always granny shifts it.

I don’t believe that the colour adds that much value. To me, this is At most a $3500 car with that hard top.
Also not in the ad that the seller says is was “repainted back to its original colour”
Think about that.

Miata boomers are more particular than Corvette ones.

Automatic no from me, no matter how tempting the price. I can’t live without a/c. I also don’t understand the obsession with removing power steering.

The high capacity radiator is a bit of a checkered flag, so to speak. And koni and eibach t o me is saying a bit more than street. That’d be Racelands or some garbage.
Plus, I missed the AC and PS deletes

That “no indication of being raced” is, uh, yeah.
That said, if they brought that up to the rust belt they might get 6k for it having a straight body, lack of rust and a running engine..

I missed th "back" part of that, and just thought respray for aging paint. But yeah

Track days aren't races, bro!

“No indication”
Right. It doesn't have numbers on the doors at this exact moment.

The pictures conveniently don't show behind the seats where the roll bar lives (lived).

Id bet good money that one of those other small things not worth mentioning is a happy meal clutch-flywheel combo kit

What’s going on over here? Is that half the factory airbox with the filter zip tied to it?

Yes it is, right on top of the headers!

having lost power steering on my old b14 200sx, it makes underpowered cars A LOT more fun because it’s just a big go kart at that point.
![]() 08/31/2020 at 09:21 |

the car’s almost 30 years old, there’s no way it’s on its original radiator. if you’re going through the work to do the swap it’s just a parts cost.
![]() 08/31/2020 at 09:26 |
|
he’s owned the car for 13 years, i’m gonna assume any major issues even if it WAS raced have been worked out by now (and personally i don’t think these mods reflect any sort of guarantee about that) . at some point it’s not enough to just say “i don’t want a car that was raced” - there has to be a reason for it, and whatever that reason is for you i’m sure the issues were addressed in the last 13 years. i wouldn’t let some tasteful mods chase me off if i was in the market.

Ehhhh, plenty of (dumb) people put racecar parts on their street cars. If they’re durable enough, it’s fine. Personally, when a part breaks on a car I own, I replace it with a performance-oriented component. Eibach/Koni isn’t that expensive, compared to a street-oriented coilover. Stock single core Miata radiators aren’t great from what I’ve heard.
The AC/PS delete suggests that a kid owned this, though. I want to say if there’s a welded in roll bar it’s seen track use, but so, so many Miata people do that for street cars. And my Miata has AC/PS deleted, and it’s much to shitty to have been used on a track, so even that doesn’t say “track rat” to me.
Track cars also generally don’t get above 200k miles without significant mechanical or aesthetic issues.
![]() 08/31/2020 at 09:34 |

Oh. Yeah I read it that way to. This was definitely raced.
![]() 08/31/2020 at 09:34 |

And the aftermarket for Miatas is such that those parts are better and cheaper then OEM. I get what you’re saying, especially as that’s the story I gave my wife when I put new coilovers on mine.
But there’s two sorts of people out here . I got a guy in the neighborhood with a flawless NA. Been resprayed not due to accident but just to keep a 30 year old looking nice. No way does he have the original radiator, but if it’s not Mazda OEM it’s just because whatever reputable garage he uses put something generic in there. Meanwhile, I’m shopping high capacity crossflow radiators because I autocross in Mid-Atlantic summers. I got a feeling someone who owned this was more like me.
There's no interior shot to show where the roll bar surely is (or was before it was removed)
![]() 08/31/2020 at 09:48 |

I wouldn't either, I think this car, with the hardtop, is priced great. But don't sell me some dumb ass bullshit that's obviously false
![]() 08/31/2020 at 10:20 |
|
The real questio n is why say it in the first place? You think someone who is looking for a radio delete, power steering removed, aftermarket suspension having, resprayed Miata cares if it’s been to a track a time or 2?
That, and the guys had it for 13 years. He could just say “I” have never tracked it. It would still be iffy, but entirely possible.
![]() 08/31/2020 at 10:20 |
|
D efinitely higher price for the mileage, but su nburst is one of the more sought after colors, especially with a matching hardtop.
![]() 08/31/2020 at 10:22 |

I’ve done more mods than this on several cars, none of which were ever raced.
![]() 08/31/2020 at 10:34 |

Im not even sure mine has it. On the door car it says
“ABS: N”
“PS: -”
I should probably just poke around for the pump and reservoir, I just keep forgetting, and don't actually care either way.

Hot air intake, bro
![]() 08/31/2020 at 10:42 |

Right? I'd buy this, happily, and track the shit out of it. "performs great on track" would be a selling point for this thing.
![]() 08/31/2020 at 10:45 |
|
Its entirely possible, sure. But shocks/springs, axel back exhaust, and sway bars are autocross/track day starter kit for this car, and bigger brakes, shift kit, headers, and radiator means “I’m out of novice, engine needs to breath a bit better, but I’m overheating in mid Atlantic summers and need more brakes”.
For this car, say it's a well sorted track car and get a grand more. Because it probably is a well sorted track car.

All valid points, for sure

Some folks race them, some folks just drive them, spiritedly, when the opportunity presents itself.
![]() 08/31/2020 at 12:58 |

I had way more work done on many of my cars and never raced or beat on them. Going hard from light to light or carving up some backroads is not even close to what racing does to a car.

Koni makes OEM-style shocks and Eibach prokit spings are the basic lowering ones that cost about the same as OEM ones and can be mounted on OEM-style shocks (it’s what i have on my street car).
